Growing Tomatoes

Ah you came to this section you must be interested in growing some tomatoes.

Have you eaten a ripe tomato picked straight out of the vine? The Taste is undoubtedly one of the best experience ever. I used to help my dad around in the gardens when I was young. When I see the red ones I would pluck and eat it straight. Yum Yum. He is a farmer btw. But he doesn’t grow tomatoes he grows those commercial type veges that you see in the supermarket. So he knows what chemicals they use. We will have a small patch of Vegetables for ourselves. One of which is Tomatoes! That’s how i developed a passion for it. Now that he is retired, after selling his land to a commercial developer. I told him, you could write an book on how to grow those vegetables and pass on the experience. Nah he is too old, for this he says.
Anyway, back to the main point! He retired when I was 7 years old. He never wanted me to me a farmer. So I never got his “skill”. I miss those Tomatoes! I went and look around and saw these ladies. They had a book! which I thought my dad should have written. Anyway I bought one, trying to replicate the experience I had years ago.

You will know when to start planting

  • Plant your seedling
  • Plant care
  • Problems along the way like those they mention in the website
  • The Mistakes We Were Making . . . from How to Grow Tomatoes

1. We’d both been using the wrong fertilizers at the wrong growth stages
2. We were both guilty of incorrect pruning – so our plants were covered with lots of small fruit and not too many big ones
3. Neither of us had a clue really when it came to watering, particularly during the severe drought we’d just lived through.
4. Some of my plants had end rot – a common problem which is easy to fix when you know how.
5. Some of my neighbour’s fruits were deformed and some had black spots on them.
